Uncover the Hidden Culprits Behind Learning and Behavioral Challenges in Children
Answering this question is the first and most important step in the assessment process. What are your desired outcomes for testing? Are you hoping to understand your child’s gifts? Would you like to help your child understand his or her temperament? Are concerned about your child’s academic performance? Do you think your child may have a learning or attention disorder? Are you uneasy about your child’s emotional, social, or behavioral functioning? Has your school or pediatrician recommended testing?

Local Couple Hosts Groundbreaking Learning & Child Development Conference Right Here in Mesa County!
Mesa County — January 29, 2025— In a unique and exciting event for the community, local couple Andrew and Katrina Katen of Individual Matters are hosting the first-ever “Learning & Child Development Conference” on March 1, 2025, at the Clifton Community Center. The event promises to bring together industry experts, parents, educators, and local providers to uncover and tackle the hidden culprits behind learning and behavioral challenges in children.
The Katens, both experienced professionals in the fields of education and psychology, decided to create the conference when they noticed a gap in local opportunities for professional development and networking. “We wanted to bring a high-caliber event to our community that would not only provide education but also promote community and connection here on the Western Slope,” said Dr. Katrina Katen, a licensed child psychologist.
The conference will feature a series of interactive workshops, panel discussions, and keynote addresses from experts in the fields of learning and neurodiversity. Topics will include processing and learning differences, strengths-based programming, and strategies to support neurodivergent children at home, school, and in the therapy room.
Andrew added, “Our aim is to provide specific tools and strategies that attendees can take back and apply to their everyday lives, whether that be with their clients, their students, or their own children.”
Attendees will have the chance to meet like-minded parents and professionals, share best practices, and learn from respected voices in the field. Notable speakers include Drs. Megan Locke and Leanna Dudley, experts in auditory and visual processing, as well as Jen Wilger, Executive Director of the Temple Grandin School.
The Katens are committed to making the event accessible to all by offering individual and group early bird discounts and volunteer opportunities. “We are passionate about helping kids unlock their full potential,” Dr. Katen said. “Everyone should have access to the tools that will help them grow.”
The one-day conference will run from 8am-5pm. Throughout the day, attendees connect with vendors to learn about the kind of services available to children and families in Mesa County. Vendors will also be treated to a VIP event (with a special guest) as a way of thanking them for all they do for Western Colorado! Local businesses and community leaders have expressed their support, seeing it a unique way to bring together the community!
Tickets for the conference are available online with early bird discounts ending February 5th! There are a few vendor spots still available, so register now!
