Dr. Katrina Katen, Psy.D.
Owner and Clinical Director
Dr. Katen is a licensed clinical psychologist with her doctorate in clinical psychology and master’s with specialization in marriage and family therapy. She founded Individual Matters in 2010 and supervises all clinical services.
Dr. Katen specializes in neurodevelopmental evaluations, therapy, and clinical supervision. Areas of expertise include gifted and twice exceptional learners, ADHD, learning disorders, anxiety, parenting, and professional development. As part of her training, she completed a doctoral internship at a specialty hospital and recovery center where she acquired formal training in neuropsychological assessment. Postdoctoral residencies focused on geriatric care and autism diagnostics. While working in Denver as a licensed psychologist, she completed a two-year position at the Gifted Development Center that allowed her to acquire proficiency in gifted and 2e evaluation. After moving to Grand Junction, she served as lead psychologist for the Audyssey Diagnostic Team in Grand Junction for seven years, where she oversaw interdisciplinary autism evaluations services for children. In addition to working with her clients at Individual Matters, Dr. Katen currently provides consulting and contract services to local and online schools and agencies.
Beyond her clinical work, Dr. Katen is a published author, professional mentor, and college instructor. She is author of The Ownership Yard: Where You Will Find True & Lasting Happiness.
Andrew Katen, M.S.
Executive Director, Owner
Andrew oversees administration and business development at Individual Matters. During regular business hours, he enjoys working with clients and providers and keeping the office running smoothly. Andrew produces The Individual Matters podcast, newsletter, and blog, which allow him to combine his creativity with outreach and education. He also works with Dr. Katen to design and host professional trainings and workshops. His background includes teaching and tutoring (middle school and college), emergency/risk management, and authoring an adventure novel about the Silk Roads (Chaturanga). He holds degrees in geology, biology, and national security studies. As a lifelong learner, Andrew’s mission at Individual Matters is to help others discover and reach their potential.
